5 Ways To Celebrate St. Patrick's Day With Kids

I love a good themed holiday, and even though I am pretty sure I don’t have an ounce of Irish in me, I’m still going to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with my kids. Why? Because it’s fun! And I love to have a reason to celebrate and make life more fun for my kids and I! So here are 5 ways I’ll be celebrating St. Paddy’s Day with my kiddos this year. I also added 2 bonus activities at the bottom of the post for extra St. Patrick’s Day fun!

Host A Party

Hosting a little party for the kids is so much fun and you don’t even have to invite anyone over if you don’t want to! We will have cupcakes at home and wear our favorite green outfits. The themed party supplies get the kids pumped up and excited to celebrate and look so cute too! This paper table runner is not only adorable but functional. I like to keep these runners on the table all the time to help protect the finish.

Pot of Gold Gift Basket

Gift giving is my love language and I love curating gift baskets for my kids. This is my first year doing a St. Patrick's themed basket, and I basically just looked for anything green they would like. I decided to do one bucket for the kids and they will share the goodies inside. I hit up the dollar store which is where I found the Hot Wheel, yo-yo, crayons, and whoopee cushion. I splurged on a few fun items like the natural play dough and Tonie figures, and the rest I got at the grocery store! Super simple and fun! You could also add things like chocolate gold coins, a coloring book, shamrock pajamas, or a green hair bow. You can find links to the items I purchased here.

Make A Leprechaun Trap

A super simple and fun craft to make is a leprechaun trap! I am not one to DIY often, so I kept this incredibly simple. I used an old Amazon box that we painted green, and hot glued foam shamrocks and gold coins to the outside. Then we added stickers and a dowel rod! Place some gold coins under the box and you’re sure to catch a leprechaun! And if you are the DIY type, I recommend searching Pinterest for more elaborate traps you can make! There are some really cool ones!

Read St. Patrick’s Day Themed Books

I love having themed books because it gives me a break from reading the same stories over and over! We like to swap out our books for seasonal ones so we’ve slowly been adding more St. Patrick’s Day ones to our collection! These are some of our favorites that we own. You can find more books for kids of all ages on our list here.

Have A Photoshoot

These rainbow pictures were actually taken last year, but I am thinking I might have to recreate them this year! This background was actually super simple to make! I used different color streamers and made a mini balloon strip. I found a gold star curtain that I added over the streamers. I laid a white blanket on the floor and it was the perfect little backdrop for our fun photoshoot!

Bonus ides: Sensory Bin

My kids love doing sensory bins and these are two examples of St. Patrick’s Day themed ones I’ve made for them! For the first one, I dyed white rice green with food coloring and added gold coins, puff balls, foam shamrocks, pipe cleaners, paper straws, and green popsicle sticks. For the other sensory bin, instead of rice as the base, I used Lucky Charms cereal. This is fun in theory but the kids mainly just ate the marshmallows rather than played with it. lol!

Countdown Chain

Grab some colorful construction paper and cut out a pot of gold as well as some gold coins and then add a rainbow paper chain for each day until St. Patrick’s Day! Super simple to make and tearing off a chain each day gives the kiddos something to look forward to!
