Ruby's Birth Story

August 6th, 2024 at 1:36pm our second daughter Ruby Drews came into this world fast and melted our hearts even faster. She is our grand finale and truly completes our not-so-little-anymore family!

My contractions started around 5am the day I gave birth. I had gotten a membrane sweep the day before so I knew this was the real deal (I had one with Ryder and it worked then too!). I started to pack my bag while trying to get the kids ready for the day and let me tell you, it was tough trying to stay in the zone with an almost 3 year old and 5 year old lol! Thankfully our neighbor was home and so I sent the two of them to play with her little girl so I could focus on getting myself organized. I texted my mom around 7:30am and told her to leave as soon as she could considering she had a 4 hour drive to get to our house. I am so glad I texted her when I did because I didn’t know it then, but I was quickly running out of time! I texted my husband at work and told him he also needed to come home early and that we needed to go to the hospital asap. He jokingly asked if he had enough time to water his plants lol. My contractions at this point were around 2 minutes apart and super consistent so I knew we should leave since our hospital is a 45 minute drive from our house! We got to the hospital around 12:30pm and by the time I got there I was around 6cm dilated. After hospital registration I was put in my own room and within maybe 20 minutes I was at 9cm so they went ahead and broke my water and it was time to push! Ruby was my smallest baby and the easiest one to push out. I pushed for around 5 minutes and she was here: 1 hour after getting to the hospital. Overall, a quick labor like that was so much easier. Ry + Row were over 24hours long and Ruby’s was 8 hours from start to finish so I had more energy this time around and I was able to go unmedicated again. I didn’t even really have any time to consider an epidural even if I had wanted one lol. But I am really happy with how my final labor and delivery went and we have the sweetest baby girl. The whole family is in love with her and I feel so grateful for my 3 healthy babies! It’s very bittersweet when you know it’s your last but I look forward to this new season of motherhood where I get to watch these 3 grow and turn into amazing little people!
